Principles

Introduction

Through its annual festival and close cooperation with its partners, CULTURESCAPES' goal is to allow audiences to gain a deeper insight into the current cultural and creative activities of a country (region, landscape).

Independent and self-reliant

The independence of the event's structure and contextual features are essential for CULTURESCAPES, as this is the only way that the expressiveness of this unique festival and the trust in the high quality of the cooperation network can be credibly assured and communicated.

Dialogue and encounters

The CULTURESCAPES festival enables a differentiated insight into the current cultural and creative activities and the tangible profound dynamics of the "cultural landscapes" of individual countries which are less well-known in Switzerland. This intense exploration is a very important quality of the festival: it encourages audiences to challenge their own notions and perceptions, while broadening and enhancing their cultural appreciation.

Development and cooperation with artists

CULTURESCAPES sees culture as a dynamic and versatile process that combines both the joy of artistic expression and the exploration of contrasts and contradictions.
CULTURESCAPES wishes to make these ideas informative and appealing to an enthusiastic and receptive audience through the organisation of the programme and the choice or artists. Cooperation with artists is characterised by a friendly and respectful attitude with the common goal of presenting a high-quality and attractive festival for all those who come to see it. We believe artistic independence is the key ingredient and view it as a valuable aspect of dialogue and mutual trust.

CULTURESCAPES uses co-productions, commissioned works and competitions to promote young artists.

CULTURESCAPES: a network festival

The festival programme is enabled and realised with the support of a number of highly-committed, experienced organisers and funding institutions throughout Switzerland and in neighbouring countries. The festival network is an all-encompassing body that works closely together to engage with everyone at all levels of the event.
The strengthening and continuous further development of this network is a key element of the effectiveness of CULTURESCAPES. Therefore, we strive for creative, harmonious and dynamic interaction between all the people and institutions involved in the festival.

Information and communication

We maintain a transparent, accessible and well-documented relationship with all our cooperation partners.
We inform our partners and our audiences in a pro-active, timely, comprehensible and truthful manner. Honest and open communication, even when dealing with a range of complex subjects, is a top priority for us.

Quality commitment

We wish to grab and sustain the audience and media's attention and interest in the contemporary art scene of the respective partner country via the artistic demands and originality of the festival programme and its performances.
We are committed to providing high-quality services for the involved artists, the audience, the funding institutions and sponsors as well as the media.

Dedication to both our internal and external activities

Our internal and external (network) activities demand mutual respect, a willingness to learn, professionalism, enthusiasm and creativity - exacting standards we expect from ourselves and our partners.
We promote a culture of dialogue both internally and externally and focus on sharing the spirit of partnership working in teams and in projects. A high level of independence and individual responsibility are key aspects of this culture.
